A girl i know is talking to some random guy she met on the internet. he seems by how she talks about

pretty schetchy. but she says that shes "in love" with this guy whenn she's neverr met him beforee. and she said taht he said over myspace or whateverr when he turns 18 (he's 17 now) taht he's going to fly to her state and meet her....

i want to convince her taht this is a really bad idea cuz for all she and i know he could be some creepy 50 year old.

so what should i tell her?

The thing about on line dating is -- if you have never talked IVA web came, or phone -- that he is maybe 50% what he tells her. The stuff they talk about, and the flirting they send back and forth, and about 50% what she has made him up to be. Because she has not actually met him, and been around him, she thinks about him alot, and may even think about how things being with him might go. This all causes her to feel shes in love with him, even though he is about 50% imaginary.

I guess you cant really tell her not to meet him at all, but make sure she has alot of friend around when she does, and try to get more visual experiences with him, see if she will elt you sit with her when she talks to him, and such. make sure he isnt some crazy sex pervert, and make sure that hes most of who he said he is, But myspace is a pretty shallow, and horrible place, and there is alot of security problems with it, so make sure she really knows who this guy is before anything happens.

I honeslty cant fight either way for this, because i know people who have met online, and have very good relationships. Some are married, and have children, and others are engaged.

Also your friends age might be important here. This is definatly not for someone who is under 20 and able to take care for themself.

I hope something in there helps at all. If she isnt going to listen, atleast make her take friend along with her.

Tell her parents about it; let them deal with it. If he ends up coming, make sure you know where they're going to be, get a bunch of people (adults included), go spy on them (just in case anything weird happens). You'll be there to rescue her. Good luck on your mission.
